Thank you for visiting our site. We are Denise and Kevin "Rambo" Fitzgerald. Cook Drink Eat Spain is a week-long, culinary vacation that focuses on the culture and cuisine of the Spanish Basque Country.
Because of our love of Spanish food and culture, Rambo and I wanted to find a way to share it with others. So, for two months a year (in late spring and in fall), we curate and host week-long, food-focused tours that include accommodations, cooking classes taught by local residents, sightseeing, winery visits and of course, lots of eating. Everything on the tour has been carefully selected and personally vetted by us. Our relationships with many residents, restaurants and businesses allow our guests to experience and appreciate Spain and Basque Country from the inside, through the eyes of a local, not a tourist.
Our tour is based in Hondarribia, a charming fishing village on the northern coast of Spain. I first visited Basque Country in 1987 and immediately was intrigued by the rugged but beautiful ocean and the picturesque green countryside. I had been studying in San Sebastian in preparation for a year at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
My time abroad was life-changing. I was a small town girl living in a huge metropolitan city. I was fortunate to make friends with groups of wonderful people that led to a multitude of new experiences and developed my love of travel. It made me realize that our world is small and we can bridge cultural gaps and build compassion by introducing people to things they might not have been exposed to before, things a little different from what they are used to. Not better, not worse. Just different. I truly believe that even small things, like learning the stories behind a dish or how to prepare it, can help us see that deep down we are all more similar than we think.
